About
A space where tradition and modernity merge to preserve and transmit the craft of woodturning.

What is the Catalan Turner School?
The Escola de Torners de Catalunya is a space where tradition and modernity merge to preserve and transmit the craft of woodturning. In our facilities, you will be able to connect with wood, develop your skills and validate your technical knowledge of turning in an inspiring environment, with expert trainers who have extensive experience in the world of professional turning.
History and Origins
L’Escola de Torners va néixer l’any 2018 amb l’objectiu de preservar, transmetre i expandir el coneixement de la torneria manual, un art amb profundes arrels culturals i històriques en el nostre territori.
Since its inception, the School of Turners has sought to be a space of inspiration and learning for people of all ages and levels of experience, from apprentices to professionals in the craft. In addition to teaching the trade of turner, we emphasize the importance of sustainability and the responsible use of resources, fundamental aspects of our work. Students not only learn to master the craft, but also to understand the cultural and environmental value of turnery.
In addition to our training work, we are also responsible for La Torneria , an artisanal wood turning workshop where we give continuity to the craft through the production of unique handmade pieces, combining tradition and creativity.
MEET THE FOUNDER
Third generation of a family of turners,
today at the head of the workshop and the classroom.
Behind the Escola de Torners de Catalunya is Jordi Pladevall, co-founder of the School, a woodturner and third generation of a family dedicated to this craft. His connection with turning is part of his family history. From a young age he grew up in his home workshop surrounded by lathes, tools and wood that have allowed him to know first-hand a craft passed down from generation to generation. This family legacy has become the basis of his professional career and his way of understanding turning.
He currently carries out his professional activity at the head of a family turnery, located in Torelló, where he works in the manufacture of wooden pieces for sectors as diverse as restoration, interior design, decoration, lighting and the development of prototypes and products.
His daily experience in the workshop provides a practical and current vision of the trade, which he also shares through his teaching work within the School of Turners of Catalonia. The combination of professional practice and training allows him to transmit to students technical knowledge, sensitivity to materials and a way of working based on observation, precision and respect for the trade.
The desire to contribute to the continuity of wood turning and to share the knowledge acquired over the years is one of the motivations that has led him to promote this training project, with the aim of bringing the craft closer to new generations and keeping alive an artisanal heritage of great cultural value.
